New record keeping system to make pension
information more accessible to conferences
by Julie Haugh*
EVANSTON, Ill. (UMNS) -- A new system of keeping records by
the United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits here
will make participant information more readily available to the
annual conference staff who administer pension and other benefit
plans.
The system called PARK, an acronym for PArticipant Record
Keeping, will allow pension staff in the denomination's annual
conferences to access pension and other benefits information from
the board through use of a web browser.
To be in operation by October 1997, the system provides each
of the 66 conferences with a Pentium processor computer, Board of
Pension and Health Benefits-specific software, Microsoft Office,
Windows 95 and a web browser. Annual conference staff will be
trained during September to use the new system.
"The PARK system will meet conferences' current needs and be
easy to expand to meet future needs, including data interchange
between conferences and with other general agencies," said Jim
Inns, chief information officer for the board.
"This service will decrease the amount of work done by the
board, thereby reducing the costs of providing services to
participants," he said.
