CHURCH BURNINGS, BOMBINGS AND ATTEMPTED ARSONS - 
1997

The following 20 houses of worship are known to have 
suffered burning, bombing or attempted arson in the 
first five months of 1997.  The list was supplied by 
the Center for Democratic Renewal, Atlanta.  The 
date of the attack is included.

ALABAMA
Flint Hill Methodist Church, Rockford, Ala. - 
January 18.
St. Paul Baptist Church, Ahsford, Ala. - January 31.
African Methodist Episcopal Church and Masonic 
Lodge, Andalusia, Ala. - March 1.

FLORIDA
First United Methodist Church, Tampa, Fla. - March 
26 (multiracial church).
St. Augustine Road Baptist Church, Jacksonville, 
Fla. - March 21 (multiracial church).
San Juan Mission Catholic Church, Branford, Fla. - 
February 11 (attempted arson).
St. Mary's Church, Green Cove Springs, Fla. - 
January 29 (attempted arson/multiracial church).
Plantation Worship Center Ministries, Lauderhill, 
Fla. - January 27.

Prayer House of Worship, Summerton, S.C. - May 31. 

Note: Texas reports 30 church fires since 1997.  CDR
