Presbyteries Recognized for G.A. Financial Support

GA97006                 PRESBYTERIES RECOGNIZED 
                FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY FINANCIAL SUPPORT 
 
 
SYRACUSE--Donegal Presbytery contributed more unrestricted money to the 
General Assembly mission budget in 1996 than any other presbytery, 
according to figures released this week by the mission funding office of 
the National Ministries Division of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). 
Donegal also led in per member unrestricted giving. 
 
    The presbytery's total "basic mission support" last year was $526,576, 
or $21.35 per member.  Philadelphia Presbytery led the denomination's 172 
presbyteries in total General Assembly mission support, restricted and 
unrestricted, with $1,097,885.  Donegal was also the leader in per member 
total support, averaging $38.15 per member. 
 
   Other giving leaders included: 
 
    * special offerings: total --  National Capital Presbytery ($366,873) 
                          per member -- Alaska Presbytery        ($13.38) 
 
    * other specific appeals: total --National Capital Presbytery 
                                                               ($218,037) 
              per member -- Southern Kansas Presbytery            ($8.45) 
 
    * Presbyterian Women: total -- Pittsburgh Presbytery 
                                                               ($164,935) 
                   per member -- Eastern Oregon Presbytery        ($5.78)
