                  Gibson Receives Restoring Creation Award

                          by Bill Lancaster

SYRACUSE--Dr. William E. Gibson of the Eco-Justice Project, Ithaca, N.Y.,
received the Founders Award at the Presbyterians for Restoring Creation
Dinner Tuesday night.

The proclamation praised him for his major accomplishments in the
eco-justice field and for serving on the bodies "which have drafted the
definitive eco-justice statements of our time..." Gibson was the principal
author of "Restoring Creation for Ecology and Justice," a major report
approved by the General Assembly in 1990 which became the basis for the
Restoring Creation organization.

In his response, Gibson thanked others who had made significant
contributions and said the world's people "are pressed together and will
thrive together or not at all." He challenged the group to: lift up the
ecological factor and not forget the improvement of nature's injuries; name
the enemy and deepen the debate; act locally and think globally; perfect
the vision and flesh out the details of the eco-justice community; and
remember we are living within a story that has a much longer time frame.

Dr. James Nash, author of the book, "Loving Nature: Ecological
Integrity and Christian Responsibility," was the evening's speaker.
