Speak-out Brings Thanks, Prayers, Recognition
by Midge Mack
SYRACUSE-- One of the most popular features of the past three Assemblies is
the opportunity commissioners and advisory delegates have to say what's on
their minds, just after lunch.
Friday a TSAD from Presbytery of the Peaks urged us to walk, roller
blade, or ride bikes; TSADS from Colgate-Rochester thanked the Assembly
for including non-Presbyterian seminarians among the advisory delegates; a
commissioner from Western New York thanked the body for being accessible to
her handicap; a commissioner from Mohawk River Valley gave thanks for
Presbyterians being a thinking, studying church, for providing study
papers; a YAD from Heartland offered thanks for learning the history and
background of the church which brought her closer to God; several
commissioners and YADS offered prayers for friends who are seriously ill.
The interim executive of Beaver Butler presbytery announced the good
news that the Presbyterian Media Mission had won a silver medal at the New
York Media Festival in International Radio Competition for their Passages
program titled Inside Rwanda; an East Tennessee commissioner said she was
here because 40 years ago today she married a Presbyterian; a commissioner
gave thanks that Sunday both his church and a member friend of his would
celebrate 100 birthdays; one YAD shared a Scripture; a commissioner from
Twin Cities was thankful for the great BEGINNINGS of the church, the YADS;
a commissioner from Giddings Lovejoy who has been an Elder for 63 years was
recognized.
