ENGLAND: CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL TO CHARGE ENTRY ON SUNDAY

(Times newspaper) Canterbury Cathedral is to become the first cathedral
in Britain to charge for entry on Sundays between services. Other
English Cathedrals, including Canterbury, charge for entry to tourists
during the week. Canterbury Cathedral staff say that the new charges
are required for safety reasons to assist crowd control. The new
charges will be introduced in July and operate until October although
worshippers will continue to be admitted without charge. Last year more
than 1.7 million people visited the cathedral and this year, because of
the St Augustine celebrations, the figure is likely to be higher.
