CLINTON, S.C.--The board of trustees of Presbyterian College have selected
Dr. John V. Griffith to be the 16th president of Presbyterian College. He
will succeed Dr. Kenneth B. Orr, who will retire this summer after serving
as president since 1979. Griffith will assume the post on Jan. 1, 1998,
following eight years as president of Lyon College in Batesville, Ark.
Board chairperson the Rev. Frank Harrington said that the trustees have
named Dr.Thomas J. Reeves as interim president for the fall semester of the
1997-98 academic year. Reeves is a 1957 graduate of Presbyterian College
who retired in 1995 after serving as president of Hastings College for 10
years.

LAKE FOREST, Ill.--The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), through its Higher
Education program area, awarded Lake Forest College a $10,000 grant to
promote the study of the Bible. This was one of five grants awarded
nationwide. A committee made up of representatives from the faculty and
staff of the 66 colleges and universities related to the PC(USA), along
with the church at large, made the grant selections.

LAURINBURG, N.C.--St. Andrews Presbyterian College was removed from
probation June 24 by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Official written notification of the SACS
decision is expected later. "The latest in a series of oral and written
reports satisfied the Criteria and Reports Committee of the college's
progress and promise," according to college president Warren Board. "The
St. Andrews education, which has consistently won national acclaim, has not
been an issue," Board said. "The Southern Association's concern is that the
college secure adequate financial resources for the future, and we are
fully engaged in achieving that goal."

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.--The Presbyterian Church of Coshocton, Ohio, has made
three donations totaling $3,500 to help defray the funeral expenses of
three Warren Wilson College students killed in an automobile accident on
May 11. The students who died in the accident near Hendersonville, N.C.,
were Dale Allen and Mark Allen, both 19, of Manchester, Jamaica, and Kevin
Omolo, 23, of Nairobi, Kenya. The church contributed $1,000 to the
Omolo-Allen Memorial Fund established by the college, as well as $2,500 in
two separate gifts to Kevin Omolo's family. Omolo was the latest of many
Warren Wilson international students sponsored by the Coshocton church. A
math and computer science major, Omolo was a senior scheduled to graduate
in December. Dale and Mark Allen, both sophomores, were two of three Allen
triplets attending the college.
