Relief agency staff
remains in Cambodia

	by United Methodist News Service

Church World Service staff members are not being evacuated from Cambodia, the
National Council of Churches (NCC) announced July 11.
The NCC's relief agency has 79 staff, including three Americans, in the
country, which has undergone renewed political turmoil and violence in recent
weeks. The staff currently is not considered to be in danger.
According to Linda Hartke, director of program and operations, Church World
Service remains neutral to the political situation. It has been present since
1979 to provide humanitarian assistance through relief and development and is
joining the calls for nonviolent solutions to Cambodia's problems.
The Americans now on staff are Howard Jost of North Haledon, N.J., who became
country director on June 6; Patricia Vanderburg of Madison, Wis., and Jim
Alexander of Mennonite Economic Development Associates in Lancaster, Pa.
