Washington clergywoman named
director of ministries with women
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- A Washington, D.C., clergywoman has been named
director of ministries with women and persons of color in the campus ministry
section of the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
The Rev. Lillian C. Smith will assume her post in the board's division of
higher education Sept. 1. A clergy member of the denomination's
Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference, she has been associate pastor of
Asbury United Methodist Church, and director of the Wesley Foundation at
Howard University in Washington for the past three years. She is currently
serving a leadership position on the churchwide campus ministry committee and
also on the churchwide focus on young people.
Smith earned a master of divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary,
Washington and a bachelor of arts degree from Hampton University in Hampton,
Va.
Smith's duties will include developing and administering programs for women
and racial/ethnic constituents and designing and implementing training
programs and conferences for campus ministers.
