United Methodist U.N. office
receives award from NGOs

     NEW YORK (UMNS) -- The United Methodist office at the United
Nations received an award June 27 from other nongovernmental
organizations (NGOs).
     The award was given by the NGO Steering Committee for the
U.N. Commission on Sustainable Development and the organizations
associated with it.
     It recognized the support and hospitality provided by the
United Methodist office, which is located across the street from
the United Nations in the Church Center for the United Nations.
That building is owned by the Women's Division, United Methodist
Board of Global Ministries, and includes staff from both that
division and from the United Methodist Board of Church and
Society.
     Besides the "warmth" of reception to visitors, United
Methodist staff provide meeting space and other services. The
office also has allowed one of its Women's Division staff,
Esmeralda Brown, to devote time as co-chairperson of the NGO
Steering Committee.
     Nana Apeadu of the World Federation of Methodist Women
accepted the award on behalf of the office.
