NCC7/18/97 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW RESOURCES AVAILABLE FROM THE NCC INCLUDE ..

"Caution: Children at Work," a six-page study/action
guide. It explores the necessity of work for some children
under age 15, its often harmful consequences, and responses
by people of faith to this very complex issue.

This guide is the latest in the "Facts Have Faces"
series produced by the Office on Global Education of Church
World Service, the humanitarian response ministry of the
National Council of Churches. The guide is available for 30
cents a copy (four for a dollar) (prepaid) from Church World
Service, P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515-0968.

"Recent U.S. media attention spotlights widespread
child labor abuses, their roots in a 'global economy,' and
the difficulty of easy solutions," the guide notes. This
resource examines the tangled roots and hard facts of child
labor, and describes people and organizations working for
the rights of working children - including working children
themselves. There is substantial information about how to
make a difference for working children, and resources for
further study.

"People, Places and Partnerships: A Workbook for Your
Mission Trip Abroad." The workbook is written as a
reflection guide for U.S. Christians traveling on short-term
mission assignments or church-sponsored travel study
seminars. The first and longest of its six sessions guides
travelers in reflection on their forth-coming trip. The 45-
page workbook goes on with tips on cultural sensitivity and
gift giving, ideas on what to pack, suggestions for staying
healthy, ways to tell your story, ideas for staying
connected to your host community and resources for more in-
depth study.

The workbook was prepared by the National Council of
Churches/Church World Service and Witness Working Group on
Mission to the U.S.A. and Canada, a broad-based ecumenical
group dedicated to strengthening he global and multi-
cultural awareness of U.S. and Canadian faith communities.
Copies of "People, Places and Partnerships" are available
from NCC/CWSW, Room 626 (Attn. Faye Wine), 475 Riverside
Drive, New York, NY 10115. Cost is $1 each, not including
postage.
