Churches to Receive "Book of Common Worship"
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Two congregations in each of the 172 presbyteries of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are about to receive deluxe, leather-bound
copies of the "Book of Common Worship."
The gifts, distributed by the Office of Theology and Worship on behalf
of the General Assembly, were paid for by a trust fund established by Elias
Boudinot, a Presbyterian elder who in 1821 set up the trust to purchase
books for congregations, to be used by their pastors. Boudinot
particularly wanted to help smaller churches that might not be able to
provide suitable books for their pastors' use.
According to the Rev. Joseph Small, coordinator for theology and
worship in the Congregational Ministries Division, executives and stated
clerks of the presbyteries will be polled to determine which churches will
be the recipients of the books.
