    Child Advocacy Resources Published

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Two new resources have been published in response to 
General Assembly directives related to child advocacy issues. 
 
    The Presbyterian Child Advocacy Office has available resource kits 
produced by the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) for congregations planning to 
observe the Children's Sabbath, which this year is Oct. 17-19. 
 
    The theme is "Seeking Shalom: Healthy Children, Healthy Nation," and 
the observance focuses on the health and wholeness of children and 
families.  It explores the role that congregations, communities, states and 
the nation can play in assuring the health and safety of children. 
 
    The CDF packet includes worship suggestions, including an interfaith 
service, bulletin inserts, educational activities and lesson plans for 
children and adults. 
 
    A free copy may be ordered by writing to Children's Sabbath Kit, PHEWA 
(Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association), 100 Witherspoon 
Street, Louisville, KY 40202. 
 
    The Presbyterian Child Advocacy Network, one of PHEWA's constituent 
organizations, has just published "We Won't Let It Happen Here! Preventing 
Child Sexual Abuse in the Church" with the cooperation of the Presbyterian 
Peacemaking Program and the Curriculum Publishing program area of the 
Congregational Ministries Division. 
 
    The 32-page booklet is a training manual for all who work with children 
in the church.  It teaches child abuse awareness, explores how Christian 
faith provides support for keeping children safe and gives instruction in 
prevention and effective response when abuse occurs.
