             Eva Stimson Is Appointed Editor 
            of "Presbyterians Today" Magazine

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Eva G. Stimson has been appointed as editor of 
"Presbyterians Today" magazine, effective immediately. 
 
    "`Presbyterians Today' is a first-rate magazine, and I'm excited about 
the opportunity to lead our small but talented staff in making it even 
better," Stimson told the Presbyterian News Service. "My first priority as 
editor will be to find ways to get this magazine out into the hands of more 
Presbyterians so they can see and read about the exciting things their 
church is doing. People who are informed, inspired and challenged by what 
they read make more committed disciples. Boosting the circulation of 
`Presbyterians Today' will strengthen the entire church." 
 
    According to Gary Luhr, General Assembly Council (GAC) associate 
director for communication, "Presbyterians Today" has not had an editor 
since 1993. However, he said, thanks to the dedication of the entire 
magazine staff, the magazine has not only continued to serve the 
denomination, but achieved new levels of quality.  "Presbyterians Today" 
recently was recognized by the Associated Church Press as the best 
denominational general-interest magazine in North America. 
 
    "These are particularly challenging times for denominational 
publications," Luhr said. "In addition to recognized skills as a writer and 
editor, [Stimson] has the vision and imagination needed to help 
`Presbyterians Today' appeal to a new generation of readers." 
 
    Stimson has served as associate editor of "Presbyterian 
Survey"/"Presbyterians Today" since 1984. From 1978 to 1984 she worked as a 
copy editor/artist for John Knox Press. She holds a B.A. in art from Mary 
Baldwin College, an M.A. from Presbyterian School of Christian Education 
and an M.A. in English from Georgia State University. 
 
     "Presbyterians Today" is the denominational magazine of the 
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It is published 10 times a year and has a 
circulation of approximately 90,000.  Subscription information can be
