Presbyterian Women Affirm And Install
Their Leadership Through The Year 2000

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--During the triennial Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian
Women (PW) here July 9-13, the organization elected and installed its
leadership for the years 1997 through 2000 during a July 11 ceremony
featuring Bible study, worship, live music and original drama.
"You have kept PW going since the last Churchwide Gathering of
Presbyterian Women in Ames in 1994," Hazel Fuhrmeister, moderator of the
Churchwide Coordinating Team (CCT) of Presbyterian Women, 1994-1997, said
to more than 5,000 participants at the Commonwealth Convention Center. "I
thank you on behalf of Presbyterian Women worldwide. My sisters, it was a
lot of work, but it was fun."
"I want to thank each one of you for your love and for your
faithfulness," said Gladys Strachan, coordinator for Presbyterian Women.
Diana Lim of San Jose, Calif., was named CCT moderator and Carol G.
Hylkema of Dearborn, Mich., was named vice moderator for mission
relationships. Ann Beran Jones of Western Springs, Ill., was named vice
moderator for issues.
Incoming CCT synod representatives are Beulah Townsend of Spokane,
Wash. (Alaska/Northwest); Ellen Newbold of Rose Hill, N.C. (Mid-Atlantic);
Jane Westfall of Yuma, Colo. (Rocky Mountains); Betty Forsberg of Sun City.
Ariz. (Southwest); and Sharon Mihattan of Cabot, Ariz. (Sun). They join
continuing CCT representatives Louise C. Davidson of Dublin, Ohio
(Covenant); Lois Potter, Albertville, Minn. (Lakes and Prairies); Millicent
Hankla of Anna, Ill. (Lakes and Prairies); Diane Blankenhorn of Madison,
Miss. (Living Waters); Ellen Carter of Hill City, Kan. (Mid-America);
Elizabeth Addison of Toms River, N.J. (Northeast); Kathryn Baker of
Ontario, Ore. (Pacific); Flavia Alvarez of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico
(Puerto Rico); Peggy Lane of Davenport, Fla. (South Atlantic); Barbara
Haith of Apple Valley, Calif. (Southern California and Hawaii) and Gloria
Venett of State College, Pa. (Trinity).
A reception for the new leaders was held following the ceremony.
