GAMBIA: BISHOP TO CHAIR ELECTORAL COMMISSION
(APS) The Anglican Bishop of Gambia, the Rt Revd Tilewa Johnson has been
appointed the chairman of the country's independent Electoral Commission
(IEC).
Reacting to his appointment, the head of the church described the
gesture as a big honour to Christians who comprise less than five per
cent of the country's 1.1 million people.
The IEC is made up of five people who represent a cross section of the
Gambian community. They are appointed for a seven-year term.
