United Methodist plan sponsors
learn new 'PIP' basics

                 by United Methodist News Service

A recent Board of Pension and Health Benefits-sponsored
training event brought together three separate United Methodist
Church employer groups for the first time to learn about the
features of the new Personal Investment Plan (PIP).
The new plan allows participants to have greater control over
the way money in their pension accounts is invested and provides
greater access to their money.
Annual conference benefits officers, general agency pension
administrators and Cumulative Pension and Benefit Fund
administrators came together Aug. 14 in Rosemont, Ill., in
preparation to help their employees during the fall investment
election process.
During the day-long event, the 70 people present learned
about PIP from presentations and small group question-and-answer
sessions, and by previewing the new PIP investment video. "This
event made me more aware of the diverse customer base the board
serves," said one participant.
PIP becomes effective Jan. 1, 1998, although participants
need to make investment elections no later than Nov. 1, 1997.
Investment election instructions will be made available to all
participants enrolled in the current personal investment plan.
Another training session will be held Sept. 11 in Rosemont
for pension officers and administrators who did not attend the
August session.
