Michigan college receives 
$4 million bequest

     Officials at United Methodist-related Adrian(Mich.) College
announced Sept. 2, that the school has received a $4 million
bequest, the largest scholarship gift in the history of the 138
year old liberal arts college.
     The gift is a remainder of the trust from the estate of the
late Van and Lorraine Darsey, supporters of Adrian College. The
Darseys created the college's Van M. and Lorraine M. Darsey
Achievement Fund, designed to assist students who achieve academic
and extracurricular excellence. The gift will be added to that
fund and raise the college's total endowment to more than $30
million.
     Describing Darsey as a man who enjoyed hearing about
students' accomplishments, Adrian College President Stanley Cain
said he was "struck by the generosity of two people who would
decide to give almost their entire estate to benefit future
generations of students." He said "to have the will and
imaginations to do that is quite remarkable."
