SOMALIA STILL NEEDS HELP

While Somalia has dropped from the world's headlines its population
remains in critical need of continuing humanitarian assistance.  The
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America provides assistance through
Action by Churches Together (ACT).   Somalia still has no established
legal government.  Despite the fact that the overall security
situation has improved, ACT reports, there is still fighting between
armed factions.  ACT has issued an appeal to provide for continuing
relief and rehabilitation, including assistance with critical
emergency needs, such as short term food aid, medical treatments,
short term payment for rent and school fees for hardship families.
Rehabilitation of the country's infrastructure continues. ACT is
coordinating the digging of wells to replace the destroyed water
supply network around Mogadishu.  ACT is a worldwide network of
churches, including the Lutheran World Federation, meeting human
need through coordinated emergency response.
