Introduction to United Methodist Church
released by discipleship publishing unit

Nashville, Tenn. (UMNS) -- An extensive introduction to the meaning of
membership in the United Methodist Church has been released by Discipleship
Resources, the publishing arm of The United Methodist Board of Discipleship.
     The United Methodist Member's Handbook by George E. Koehler is a revised
and expanded resource for new church members, for people inquiring about the
United Methodist Church and for current church members who want a quick
refresher course on United Methodist beliefs.
First printed in 1987, the handbook addresses 40 topics that are organized
around the themes of belonging, remembering and believing. The book states
that United Methodists belong to the local congregation, the denomination and
the church of Jesus Christ around the world.
	According to Kathy Manor, marketing manager for Discipleship Resources, this
handbook is "a real nuts and bolts, user-friendly resource for any person in
the United Methodist Church or for anyone considering membership in the
denomination."
     The author, George E. Koehler has written numerous articles for journals
and magazines; United Methodist curriculum resources; and books published by
Rand McNally, Abingdon Press and Discipleship Resources.  
Now retired, Koehler was an editor for Discipleship Resources from 1980 to
1986.  He is a clergy member of the California-Pacific Annual Conference.
