Former Duke dean Dennis Campbell
named headmaster of Virginia boys’ school

	The Rev. Dennis M. Campbell, former dean at Duke University Divinity School,
Durham, N.C., has been named headmaster of Woodberry Forest School, a boys’
college preparatory school located in Madison County, Va.
	Woodberry, founded in 1889, has more than 4,000 living alumni.  With an
endowment exceeding $100 million, the school ranks in the top ten nationwide
among independent schools in terms of endowment per student.  The school has
an enrollment of 374 boys from 24 states and 11 countries.
	Campbell, 52, completed 15 years at Dean of Duke’s Divinity School in June
with the intention of returning to full-time teaching. He holds a Bachelor of
Divinity degree from Yale and a Ph.D. in religion from Duke.  
He is the author of four books on theology and ethics.  At age 37, he became
the Duke Divinity School’s youngest dean and held that position longer than
any of his predecessors.  Under his leadership, the school’s endowment
quadrupled, admissions increased significantly, and faculty became more
diversified.
