New Bible study guide examines
culture and church life

by United Methodist News Service

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The publishing arm of the United Methodist Board of
Discipleship has released a study guide on how culture affects personal and
spiritual life.
Culture Shifts: A Group Bible Study for Postmodern Times by Craig Kennet
Miller and Lia Icaza-Willetts was written to help Christians understand how
changes in North American culture affect their lives and that of the church.
Through Bible study combined with an examination of nine culture shifts,
participants are encouraged to find new ways to live faithfully as Christians.
Designed as a group Bible study in 10 sessions, Culture Shifts may be
used as a small-group study, a church school course, a pastor's resource for
preaching and training, or a personal study guide. The book includes a "Guide
for Daily Devotions" that focuses on Psalms.
Miller is the director of new congregational development for the United
Methodist Board of Discipleship in Nashville. He is the author of Postmoderns:
The Beliefs, Hopes, and Fears of Young Americans (1965-1981), Baby Boomer
Spirituality: Ten Essential Values of a Generation, and several other books.
Icaza-Willetts is a director of family ministries at the board and the
author of numerous articles in United Methodist publications.
Culture Shifts: A Group Bible Study for Postmodern Times (order number
DR241) is available for $15.95. It may be ordered online from Discipleship
