Korean-American task force
develops questionnaire
by United Methodist News Service
A research tool has been developed to assist the United Methodist General
Conference Task Force on Korean-American Ministries in gathering data.
Once refined, a written questionnaire drafted by task force members during
their Jan. 22-24 meeting in Los Angeles will be mailed to all Korean-American
congregations in the denomination.
Song Ja Park of Pasadena, Calif., task force vice president, said the group
also will convene focus groups in different geographical areas.
Charged with studying the ministry needs of Korean Americans and submitting
recommendations to the 2000 General Conference, the 24-member task force
represents clergy and laity, men and women, younger or "transgenerational "
clergy and the Council of Bishops.
Park said the task force will seek to contact representatives of many
different parts of the Korea-American community. "We'll get in touch with as
many lay persons as possible," she added.
Task force members also will actively participate in the Korean-American
United Methodist Mission Convocation set for May 4-7 in Los Angeles. The event
is sponsored by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries and supported
by the National Association of Korean-American United Methodist
Churches.
