Montreat Renovations Receive Financial Boost
by Jerry L. Van Marter
MONTREAT, N.C.--The effort to renovate two major meeting rooms in Assembly
Inn at the Montreat Conference Center has received a $40,000 boost from the
Asheville, N.C.-based Janirve Foundation.
The grant will enable Montreat to renovate, repair, redecorate and
re-equip Assembly I and Lakeside. The last major renovation of Assembly
Inn, which was built of native stone in 1928, was more than 30 years ago.
"It is critical to the mission of Montreat that meeting rooms be
equipped to meet the needs of today's conferences," said R. James
Henderson, Montreat's interim executive director. "The Janirve Foundation
has enabled us to realize, in part, this important goal."
One of three national conference centers of the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.), Montreat offers a year-round schedule of more than 35 conferences
that attract more than 30,000 participants annually.
The Janirve Foundation was created in 1954 by Irving Jacob Reuter. The
private foundation makes grants primarily in western North Carolina.
