GREENEVILLE, Tenn.-The Tusculum College Sports Center, a new $6.4 million
facility on the Greeneville campus, opened its doors Jan.17. The center was
made possible by the Tusculum College 2000 Campaign, a $20 million capital
campaign that is providing funds for a variety of campus needs, from
renovations to the library and residence halls to new construction. The
campaigning was launched by a $2.5 million gift from Scott Niswonger,
chairman and CEO of Landair Services, Inc., of Greeneville and his wife,
Nikki. Niswonger is an alumnus and trustee of the college. To date, more
than 360 friends have made gifts designated in support of the sports center
project.

JAMESTOWN, N.D.-James Walker, president of Jamestown College, has announced
that James Stone will become vice president and dean of academic affairs
and Thompson Brandt will become associate dean of academic affairs as of
July 1. Jerry Combee, executive vice president and dean of academic
affairs, was previously selected to become president when Walker retires
June 30.

HASTINGS, Neb.-Hastings College has received a $3.1 million bequest, the
college's largest gift ever, from Althea McClelland, a 1931 alumna. She
died on Dec. 25, 1997, in Sun City, Ariz., at the age of 87. At the donor's
request, the money will be used for the music department at Hastings. The
Hastings College Foundation will set aside $2.5 million to endow
scholarships for music students and use $600,000 for general education
programs of the college.

DANVILLE, Ky.-Centre College has received a $1.5 million gift in honor of a
former president of the college, Thomas A. Spragens, and his wife,
Catharine. The donation was made recently during Centre's annual observance
of Founder's Day. The gift was made on an anonymous basis by a former
college trustee and his wife. The funds will be used to endow a new
scholarship that will bear the Spragenses' names. A Kentucky native,
Spragens became president of Centre College in 1957 and headed the college
for 24 years. Mrs. Spragens played a long supportive role in her husband's
presidency, planning social events that encouraged trustees to spend more
time on campus and hosting functions for faculty members and students.
