ATLANTA, Ga.-Charles F. Easley Sr. has joined the Johnson C. Smith
Theological Seminary Office of Development as the volunteer coordinator of
planned giving. A graduate of Knoxville College and Clark/Atlanta
University, Easley is an elder at the Radcliffe United Presbyterian Church
in Atlanta. He recently retired from the position of vice president for
student affairs at Atlanta Metropolitan College.
PITTSBURGH-"`A Ransom for Many': Reformed Perspectives on the Atonement" is
the subject of the annual Schaff Lectures to be delivered March 17-18 at
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary by the Rev. Brian A. Gerrish. Gerrish is
the John Nuveen professor emeritus in the Divinity School, University of
Chicago, and the Distinguished Service professor of theology at Union
Theological Seminary in New York. The lectures are set for 11:15 a.m. and
7:30 p.m. March 17 and at 11:15 a.m. March 18.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-"Single in the Community of Faith" is the topic for the
spring conference of the Center for Congregations and Family Ministries at
Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, March 19-21. Keynoters
include Martin E. Marty, the Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service
professor at the University of Chicago; Freda A. Gardner, the former Thomas
W. Synnott professor of Christian education at Princeton Theological
Seminary; Herbert Anderson, professor of pastoral theology at the Catholic
Theological Union in Chicago; and Rodger Nishioka, coordinator for youth
and young adult ministries for the General Assembly of the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.). Subjects include single parents, homelessness and
ministry with older adults.
PRINCETON, N.J.-"Inheriting the Promise," Princeton Theological Seminary's
seventh annual conference on women in ministry, is under way, March 2-4.
Susan L. Nelson, associate professor of theology at Pittsburgh Theological
Seminary, is the keynoter, addressing the theme "Clothing Ourselves in
Garments of Hope." Ann Belford Ulanov, professor of psychiatry and
religion at Union Theological Seminary in New York, is the speaker for the
seminary's annual Women in Church and Ministry Lecture on the topic "The
Gift of Consciousness." There are workshops on designing clergy stoles,
spirituality and eating disorders, and women's health concerns throughout
their life spans.
AUSTIN, Texas-The Austin Seminary Association honored the Rev. Walter M.
Crofton Jr. and the Rev. Frank Diaz with the seminary's 1998 "Awards for
Service" Feb. 4. A 1962 graduate, Crofton served churches in Texas,
Oklahoma and Arkansas and served as moderator of the Synod of
Arkansas-Oklahoma. He also served on the seminary's board of trustees.
Diaz graduated from the seminary in 1982, after careers in electronics
engineering and real estate. He is now interim executive director of the
General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
