recognizes leaders in awards ceremony
by United Methodist News Service
The United Methodist Association recognized leaders in its
health care and human service organizations during a March 12 awards
ceremony at its 58th national convention in Chicago.
Marcus E. Drewa, president/chief executive officer of Methodist
Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., received the association's
Distinguished Service Award. The Rev. Richard C. Stazesky, president and
CEO at Peninsula United Methodist Homes, based in Wilmington, Del., was
given The President's Citation of Merit.
Margaret Pitts, a Waverly Hall, Ga., philanthropist and
benefactor to many United Methodist-related health and human service
organizations, and Ralph S. Hamilton, a Memphis ophthalmologist and
financial benefactor to medical education, were inducted into the
association's Hall of Fame in Philanthropy.
Other award winners included:
* David S. Ridderheim, Jr., immediate past president and
CEO of Parkview Health System in Fort Wayne, Ind., as
1998 Administrator for the Year -- Hospitals and Health
Systems Section;
* Richard J. Terry, executive director, United Methodist
Children's Home, Mt. Vernon, Ill., as 1998 Administrator for the Year --
Children, Youth and Family Services Section;
* Ronald K. Klipping, executive director, Wesley Homes, Des
Moines, Wash., as 1998 Administrator for the Year -- Older Adults
Section;
* The Rev. Donald F. Strauch, executive director, TMM Family
Services Inc., Tucson, Ariz., as 1998 Administrator for the Year --
Community Based Ministries Section;
* The Rev. Ronald C. Brooks, chaplain at Kingswood retirement
community in Kansas City, Mo., as Chaplain of the Year;
* John K. Miles, board member at McKendree Village, Hermitage,
Tenn., as Trustee of the Year;
* Marge Ozley Roate, director of development at Chaddock, a
residential child treatment center in Quincy, Ill., as Public
Relations/Development/Marketing Director of the Year.
* Diana Burns, a board member at Methodist Youth Services in
Chicago, and Frances Benz Harrison, a resident volunteer at McKendree
Village, Hermitage, Tenn., as Volunteer of the Year;
* Bethany Methodist Corp., which owns and operates Bethany
Retirement Center, Methodist Hospital of Chicago and Bethany Terrace
Nursing Center, as Organization of the Year.
United Methodist Association is a national network of retirement and
long-term care facilities, residential treatment centers for children
and family service programs, community-based ministries and hospitals
and health systems.
