Church Music and Worship Group Announces Jurisdictional Events
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- The Fellowship of United Methodists in
Music and Worship Arts will sponsor special events this summer in all
five of the denomination's U.S. jurisdictions, group officials have
announced.
The 2,200-member organization describes itself as a "sharing and
enabling fellowship that affirms the sacramental life, embracing
preaching, music, drama, dance, architecture, and all the visual arts
appropriate for the inclusive life of the church."
The fellowship includes organists, choral directors, pastors,
diaconal ministers, deacons, local church worship committee members,
dancers, dramatists and others interested in church music, worship and
the arts.
The group is affiliated with the United Methodist Board of
Discipleship.
Regional offerings will include workshops on worship, music, choral
conducting, organ, children's and youth choirs, dance and drama,
handbells, hymn singing, stained glass and professional concerns.
Dates and places for the jurisdictional gatherings are:
Southeastern -- June 21-26, Lake Junaluska, N.C.
South Central -- July 13-17, Fayetteville, Ark.
North Central -- Aug. 2-7, Adrian College, Adrian, Mich.
Northeastern -- Aug. 2-7, Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pa.
Western -- July 13-18, Spokane, Wash.
In July 1999, the group will hold a national convocation at the
Holiday Inn Vanderbilt and West End United Methodist Church in
Nashville.
