LAURINBURG, N.C.-A half-million-dollar challenge from The Morgan Foundation
launched the 1998 Laurinburg Area Campaign for St. Andrews Presbyterian
College recently. Jimmy Morgan, chairman of the Laurel Hill-based
foundation, pledged $500,000 toward the campaign if the Laurinburg and
Scotland County community matches that amount. "This year's campaign goal
is $500,000," said college president Warren Board. "But with The Morgan
Foundation's generous challenge, we expect to reach the $1 million level."
MARYVILLE, Tenn.-Maryville College has received a $25,000 grant from the
Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation. The grant will be used for general
scholarships during the 1998-99 academic year.
DUBUQUE, Iowa-The University of Dubuque has received a $1.25 million gift
from alumna, long-time friend and trustee Jackaline Baldwin Dunlap. The
gift will provide the resources to equip the new Academic Technology Centre
with the latest in electronic and audiovisual equipment and provide
enhanced technology campuswide. Dunlap and her husband, Paul, have been
loyal supporters of the university. In 1980, they established the Jackaline
Baldwin Dunlap Distinguished American Lectureship, which annually brings
noted authorities on the American economic and business system to the
campus. In 1983, Mrs. Dunlap joined the UD board and played a leadership
role in developing the university from that time forward. In 1995, they
founded the Jackaline Baldwin Dunlap Chair of Business, the first fully
endowed chair of the university, with a gift of $1 million.
