The Congregational Ministries Division has named Jennifer S. Butler, a
member of United Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, N.J., as the new

agency of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.
In her new position, Butler will monitor, research, write and speak on
global issues, particularly gender issues, as they relate to the U.N. and
the denomination. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary,
Princeton Theological Seminary and Rutgers University. She served as a
U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Belize, Central America, from 1989 to 1991.

James A. "Jim" Gittings, who has been writing for and about
Presbyterians for more than 40 years, has been chosen to receive a Lifetime
Service Award from the Presbyterian Writers Guild. The award will be
presented to the journalist-author-poet at the Guild's luncheon during the
upcoming 210th General Assembly in Charlotte, N.C.
Gittings began his work for the Presbyterian Church as a missionary in
Pakistan in 1957. He subsequently served in Indonesia and Japan until
1968, when he was named associate editor of "Presbyterian Life." That
magazine became part of the two-denomination publication "A.D." in 1972,
and Gittings served as its Presbyterian editor until its demise in 1983.
Gittings is the author of six books: "Life Without Living," "Down
Strange Streets," "Bread, Meat and Raisins," "Company of Pilgrims"
(poetry), "Breach of Promise" and "From Dream to Reality." He is at work
on another book of poetry, "Crow Call on Allegheny Mountain."

The Rev. Dale K. Milligan, a Presbyterian minister who was founder,
executive director and CEO of LOGOS System Associates, died Jan. 23.
LOGOS began almost 35 years ago as "Youth Club," a midweek program for
youth and children. It has since branched out and now includes the Kerygma
Adult Bible Study Program and WINGS, a program that ministers to children
and families of prisoners. LOGOS programs operate all around the world.
Milligan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris; four daughters:
Deborah Freeman, Kathleen Milligan, the Rev. Laurie Milligan and Rebecca
Little; and five grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Beulah
Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, where Milligan served as pastor for many
years.
