Registration Deadline Nears for
APA National Conference
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Presbyterian office staff members wishing to attend the
22nd annual national conference of the Administrative Personnel
Association have until April 15 to register.
The APA Conference will be held May 15-17 at the Sheraton Harbor Place
Hotel in Fort Myers, Fla. According to APA officer Teri Bauer, conference
planners expect 125 participants, which, she said, will make it "one of our
largest gatherings ever."
The APA's goal is "to improve the quality of professionalism in
church-related offices, which are usually the first points of contact with
congregations, governing bodies and agencies of the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.)."
In addition to the national conference, regional conferences are held
during the year to provide continuing education and certification
opportunities to Presbyterian office workers.
The 1998 conference will offer a major seminar on "Technology in the
Office." Other workshops will address church history, office
administration, disaster and crisis preparedness, and parliamentary
procedure.
Level I and Level II APA certification credits will be offered for all
seminars.
At a concluding banquet on May 16, certification awards will be
presented to those who have completed their requirements for APA
certification.
Some scholarship assistance is available. For information about it,
call Susie Zych at (360) 491-7770. More information about the conference
is available by calling Dot Bass, APA national office manager, at (919)
787-2055.
