AUGUSTANA COLLEGE EARNS NATIONAL AWARD
98-13-082-MR
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., is one of
three schools in the United States to receive the Multicultural Program
Award from the National Association for Campus Activities. Augustana, a
college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, was honored for
"Diversity: A Fall Celebration," a series of programs offered last fall by
the school's College Union Board of Managers.
The series included performances by an African American theater
troupe and Latin vocalist Irene Farrera, as well as an interactive lecture
presented by television journalist Charles Perez and a video series
presented at Augustana's Black Culture House.
The award was established to encourage and promote the development of
programs and services on cultural diversity and awareness. The association
recognizes and honors innovative and outstanding programs in higher
education. Last year Augustana received the association's Excellence in
Programming and Distinguished Student Development awards.
