delegates
GENEVA, 14 September 1998 (lwi) - "Christian witness in Latin America - a
Lutheran contribution to the third millennium". So runs the theme of the
Ninth Lutheran Conference, which will take place in Rodeio 12 in the
Brazilian state of Santa Catarina from September 27 to October 2. Some 80
delegates and guests will take part in the Conference, including three from
the 12 member churches of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Latin
America. There will also be eight delegates from the four recognized
congregations of the Lutheran worldwide communion.
Among other things, the Conference in Rodeio 12 will analyze the
resolutions and recommendations from the ninth LWF General Assembly in Hong
Kong. Guillermo Hansen, the Argentinian professor of systematic theology at
the Instituto Superior Evangelico de Estudios Teologicos in Buenos Aires
will give the keynote address. The Brazilian economist, Marcos Arruda, will
analyze the regional economic situation in a presentation entitled
"Globalization - Consequences and Alternatives for Latin America".
The LWF General Secretary Ishmael Noko will also be present and will speak
about the priorities elaborated by the LWF for the next seven years.
The delegates and guests in Rodeio 12 will analyze five themes:
communication, youth in the church and in society, specific questions of
sexuality, education, and charitable works.
