Poster Contest on Gun Control Launched

    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Criminal Justice Program in Louisville has announced a
poster contest to promote the reduction of gun violence in the United
States.

The contest comes as a response to the 1998 General Assembly's call to
"all Presbyterians to intentionally work toward removing handguns and
assault weapons from our homes and our communities."

As part of this effort, the Assembly directed that a poster be produced
to be distributed to every synod, presbytery and congregation.

The poster contest includes three categories: Children (preschool
through 5th grade); Youth (6th grade through 12th grade); and Young Adults
and Adults (all those past 12th grade).

One entry in each age category will be selected for production and
distribution throughout the church.

Entries may be submitted by individual Presbyterians or by groups of
Presbyterians. Entries must be 5" by 8" to 18" by 24" in size, can be
either vertical or horizontal in format and can be in one or more colors.

The name, address, age category and church affiliation of the artist(s)
must be firmly attached to the back of the artwork.

Entries must be received by March 31, 1999. Send them to Criminal
Justice Program, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), 100 Witherspoon Street,
Louisville, KY 40202. For more information, call (502) 569-5803.
