    New Endowment Established
    For Montreat Youth Conferences

    by Emily Enders Odom

MONTREAT, N.C.- A $250,000 challenge grant from the Morgan Foundation in
Laurel Hill, N.C., has been received by the Montreat Conference Center here
to establish the Morgan Endowment for Montreat Youth Conferences.

The newly-established endowment fund will enable Montreat Conference
Center to meet the needs of the nearly ten thousand young people who seek
spiritual renewal through six weeks of youth programming at Montreat as
well as at its off-site location at Colorado State University, Fort
Collins, Colo.

The Morgan Foundation, which limits its giving primarily to North
Carolina, is an independent foundation which provides support for
Protestant churches, higher education, and a theological seminary.

"Imagine the collective shout of thousands of young people," remarked
Emile H. Dieth, Jr., president of Montreat Conference Center. "That is the
joyful noise emerging from within Montreat Conference Center in response to
this most miraculous and generous gift."

Among other benefits to be directly enjoyed by youth conference
participants, the Morgan Endowment for Montreat Youth Conferences will
allow for scholarship assistance and other subsidies, which will make the
youth conferences more affordable and accessible to all who would come.
