Gordon Showell-Rogers has been appointed the new General Secretary of the
European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) and will step into his new role on 01
April 1999. He was elected by unanimous vote at the annual EEA Council
Meeting, held in Sofia, Bulgaria in late October 1998.
Showell-Rogers succeeds Stuart McAllister, who stepped down at the end of
1997, as EEA General Secretary. A Briton from a Baptist background, and
with a wide experience of many denominational groupings, the new General
Secretary is presently National Director of "International Student
Christian Services" (ISCS) in London. From 1983 to 1988 he headed up the
IFES national student ministry in Austria, as well as travelling
extensively throughout Central and Eastern Europe to serve student
ministries in other countries.
With a strong emphasis on world mission, evangelical unity and the local
church, his wide ministry experience will help the EEA to broaden their
efforts to bring evangelicals together, on a regional, national and local
level, and to encourage Christians to be involved in their communities.
Gordon is married to Jane; they have two children, Andrew (18) and Emma
(15). In his spare time, the 45-year-old enjoys films, books, music,
skiing and parachuting.
55 representatives from the 25 national Evangelical Alliances, representing
about eight million European evangelicals, attended the EEA Council
Meeting.
