Canada: Adventist Satellite Evangelism Reaches High Arctic
[98/39/02]

Inuvik, Canada [ANN/APD] The recently concluded Net '98
telecasts featuring the NeXt Millennium Bible seminars
presented by Adventist pastor Dwight Nelson have reached
remote areas as only satellite broadcasts can.

Judy and Olav Falsnes live in the isolated town of Inuvik, 300
miles north of the Arctic Circle in Canada's North west
Territories. But even there they were able to receive the
transmissions.

"The broadcast satellite is so low on the horizon that our dish
actually points down," says Olav Falsnes. "We live 850 miles
from the nearest Seventh-day Adventist Church, so this series
was really helpful. Though attendance was of course small,
the opportunity to share what we believe in this way was
wonderful."

The Falsnes operate a guest house for visitors to the region
which in winter is often totally isolated by severe weather.
Olav works as a pilot and mechanic, and has landed four
times on the North Pole. Working with local Eskimos, they
have arranged for religious books and tapes to be produced in
the Eskimo Inuit language. The satellite outreach programs
add another welcome tool to their ministry in the High Arctic.
