Registration Nears For Regional
Global Mission Conferences
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Registration will begin soon for three regional global
mission conferences that will be sponsored by the Worldwide Ministries
Division next fall.
Entitled "Congregations in Global Mission: Stepping into God's Future,"
the conferences are designed to equip congregations to engage in global
mission. They are building on the success of a national conference on
congregational involvement in global mission held a year ago in St. Louis.
The conferences will be held Oct. 21-24 in Seattle, Oct. 28-31 in
Houston and Nov. 4-7 in Falls Church, Va.
"Increasing numbers of congregations are seeking to make a difference
through mission engagement that is global as well as local," explained the
Rev. Tricia Lloyd-Sidle, coordinator of conference planning. "These
conferences will put local church folks in touch with one another, with the
resources of the connectional church and with the insights of Christian
partners from around the world."
Each conference will include keynote speeches by Rodger Nishioka,
coordinator for young adult ministries for the PC(USA), and Rev. Marian
McClure, the WMD director, and a performance by Thuma Mina, the PC(USA)'s
mission-themed theater troupe.
Each conference also will include an address by a mission professor
from one of the PC(USA)'s theological institutions. Participants in
Seattle will hear the Rev. Philip Wickeri, professor of mission and
evangelism at San Francisco Theological Seminary. Houston conferees will
hear from Rev. Sherron George, professor of evangelism and mission at
Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Those in Falls Church will hear
the Rev. Sam Moffett, professor emeritus at Princeton Theological Seminary.
