November 8-12- The National Council of Churches will 
celebrate its 50th Anniversary in Cleveland, Ohio, the site 
of the founding of the Council.  The NCC Executive Board, 
General Assembly and many NCC unit committees and working 
groups will meet in conjunction with the Anniversary.  
Preliminary plans include daily worship, Bible study, New 
Songs for Unity (commissioned by the NCC's member 
denominations to mark the anniversary), workshops, panels 
and three major evening presentations: 

* November 9- In Allen Theater, the Cleveland Orchestra will 
launch the "Unity Anniversary Celebration" in a concert 
evoking a theme of spiritual quest through music.
* November 10- New Songs for Unity, a dramatic live and 
televised presentation on the NCC's 50 years.  
* November 11- Installation of Ambassador Andrew Young as 
the 20th President of the National Council of Churches.

Some 3,000 persons from across the United States and abroad
