NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - The Connectional Process Team, meeting here Jan.
15-18,, affirmed the making of Christian disciples as the mission of the
church and said local churches are the most significant arena through which
that happens.

According to the first draft of a report to be released in mid-February all
activities, functions and structures of the church must be examined against
the question, "Will this help us invite, nurture, and empower disciples of
Jesus Christ through local congregations and faith communities throughout
the world?"

In order to be transformed for mission, CPT member said the church must
focus its commitment, energies and resources to:
*	place spiritual formation at the center of its work
*	invigorate the ministry of the church
*	call forth spiritual leaders
*	create a Covenant Council of spiritual and prophetic leaders
*	empower the ministry of congregations and faith communities
*	recognize a truly global United Methodist Church
*	strengthen ecumenical relationships
*	revitalize the United Methodist connection
*	structure agencies to support congregations, faith communities and
annual conferences
*	encourage doctrinal and theological discourse
*	assure that all voices are heard.
Specifics for each of the "transformational directions" will be spelled out
in the report being prepared by a writing team chaired by the Rev. Minerva
Carcano of Dallas. Watch for the full report in mid-February
