WACC LAUNCHES WORLDWIDE DESIGN CONTEST
Communication: from confrontation to
reconciliation
The World Association for Christian
Communication is pleased to announce
the launch of a worldwide competition
to design a logo for its World Congress
2001, due to take place in the Netherlands
July 3-7. The prize for the winning entry
will be complimentary attendance at the
Congress (including travel and accommodation)
which will attract some 500 communicators
from across the world.
The theme of the Congress, which the logo
must signify, is "Communication: from
Confrontation to Reconciliation." The
process of reconciliation is taking place
in many countries and regions of the world,
with varying degrees of progress. For instance,
South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation
Commission recently published its report of
the Apartheid era, and the peace process
continues in Ireland, while citizens across
Latin America come to terms with the brutality
of past regimes.
WACC's belief is that communication is
fundamental in this process. Often it is a
breakdown in communication that leads to
confrontation, while the celebration of
communication can lead to reconciliation. By
democratising communication, and providing
everyone with the opportunity to communicate,
the process of reconciliation can be fulfilled.
There are many local examples of this process
taking place worldwide. While the winning logo
design may draw on a local context, its overall
flavour should be global, and it should emphasise
the role of communication in the process.
Entries are welcome from anyone, anywhere. It
is hoped that the entries that are not chosen
as the Congress logo will form an exhibition at
the Congress. The closing date for entries is
August 31st 1999.
