Churches Given Chance to Preview Non-Fiction Films

    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Presbyterian congregations are being given the opportunity
to review non-fiction films produced by the Public Broadcasting System
(PBS) as part of a pilot program to determine the usefulness of film as a
discussion tool of contemporary issues facing communities.

PBS' "Point of View" (POV) is an annual prime-time summer series of
independent non-fiction films that addresses contemporary community issues.
Participating congregations will be asked to help organize a local preview
screening of a film selected by the Media Services Office in Louisville to
determine whether they think it is of interest to their community. PBS
will then use collected feedback to determine its scheduling of POV
programs on local public television.

Congregations interested in participating in the POV pilot program
should submit basic information about the congregation (church's name,
size, average age of membership, racial/ethnic composition, and contact
name with phone number and e-mail address,, etc.) to Kelly Hass, Office of
Communication, 100 Witherspoon Street, Louisville, KY 40202 or by e-mail to
khass@ctr.pcusa.org

    Deadline is March 18, 1999.
