The Rev. Lester Ruth, assistant professor of liturgical studies at Yale
University's Institute of
Sacred Music and its divinity school, has won the $2,000 Jesse Lee Prize for
his manuscript on worship at early Methodist quarterly meetings.

Given just once every four years, the purpose of the prize is to assist with
publication of a book-length manuscript on a topic related to United
Methodist history. The award is named for the first historian of American
Methodism.

The title of Ruth's manuscript is "Worship at Early Methodist Quarterly
Meetings: 'A Little Heaven Below.'" It will be published by Kingswood Press,
an imprint of the United Methodist Publishing House.

Ruth is a clergy member of the Texas Annual Conference. He is also the
author of Accompanying the Journey: A Handbook for Sponsors, published by
Discipleship Resources.
