Directors elected to new foundation board

A new foundation for the United Methodist Church, created by the General
Council on Finance and Administration last fall, has its first board of
directors.

Search for a new staff executive will begin following an organizational
meeting of the board in July.

Members of the new board are: Pacifico Aniag, Malolos,  Bulacan,
Philippines; Jan Berentsen, Montrose, Calif.; the Rev. Aaron Black, Lincoln,
Neb.; Phyllis Bowers, Harrisburg, Pa.; the Rev. Paul Butler, Temple Terrace,
Fla.; the Rev. Jimmy Caraway, Baton Rouge, La.; the Rev. John Crooch,
Oklahoma City (appointed by the National Association of United Methodist
Foundations); Cashar Evans, Kitty Hawk, N.C.; Neil Harper, Belmont, Mass.;
Sandra Kelley Lackore, Evanston, Ill. (ex-officio); Thomas R. Locke, Austin,
Texas; Bishop Richard Looney, Macon, Ga., (ex-officio); the Rev. Eugene
Matthews, Washington; Sam Paddock, Beloit, Wis.;  Trudie Kibbe Reed, Little
Rock, Ark.; Sam Smith, Charlotte, N.C.; Tetsu Tanimoto, Los Angeles; and the
Rev. Francine Taylor-Thirus, Chicago.

The foundation will solicit gifts and contributions from individuals,
foundations, corporations and others to support the denomination's general
funds and other United Methodist organizations.
