GA99012 1999 ECUMENICAL SERVICE OF WORSHIP
                211TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY (1999) OF
                 THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (U.S.A.)

FORT WORTH-On Wednesday morning, June 23 at 8:30, the Rev. James Forbes of
Riverside Church in New York City will preach at the 1999 Ecumenical
Service of Worship. Ecumenical delegates and representatives from Christian
churches around the world will participate in the liturgy, as will
musicians drawn from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Because of the immense human crisis in Kosovo, it has been decided
that the offering from the Ecumenical Service of Worship will benefit
ecumenical relief efforts in that region. In Kosovo and surrounding
nations, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has been working in tandem with
the ecumenical coalition "ACT," or Action by Churches together, as well as
the Evangelical Alliance in Albania and the diaconal service program of the
orthodox churches in southeastern Europe.
At the urging of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,
churches have focused their Kosovo-related ministries on children and
youth, in particular. Both physical and psychological needs are met by the
"Kids Care Teams." This offering at the meeting of the 211th General
Assembly has been deemed particularly appropriate in light of the PCUSA's
coming observance of "The Year of the Child."

Preceding the Ecumenical Service of Worship, those attending the
annual Ecumenical Breakfast will hear an address by Bishop Ted Gulick. He
serves the Episcopal Church as the bishop of the Diocese of Kentucky, as
co-chair of the Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue in the U.S.A. and as a
member of the executive committee of the Consultation on Church Union
(COCU). Tickets for the breakfast are on sale in the convention center.
