The National Council of Presbyterian Men

Fort Worth-The National Council of Presbyterian Men (NCPM) gathered for
lunch on Thursday at the 211th General Assembly. The activities of the day
included an inspiring sermon by active supporter of men's work in the
church, Dr. Clayton Bell. Don Travis, president of the group, outlined the
anticipated changes for the structure and philosophy of the organization.
The NCPM was begun at the reunion of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
in 1984. Travis pointed out the mission of the organization is "to lead men
into a vital relationship with Christ and to assist them in their spiritual
development." The program emphasis for 1999-2000 is mentoring and tutoring
as outreach to one's community and is coupled with the denomination's
emphasis on erasing racism in the church, community, and city.
In addition the Presbyterian Men offer an excellent Bible study for
building men's faith. Travis encouraged the men to participate in a live
tele-conference from Peachtree Presbyterian Church dealing with the number
one health risk to women, violent attacks on women by men. It will take
place on October 3, 1999.
