Worldwide Faith News apologizes for the unexpected flood of news releases 
from a single source which occurred Sunday evening, August 15, 1999.  The 
denomination's automatic posting system for sending news releases to WFN 
became disconnected in some way for an extended period, including the time 
of the denomination's national convention.

It appears that the posting system was restored and 241 releases were 
posted to WFN during a 30 minute period Sunday evening.  The releases were 
automatically and properly processed by the WFN server.

WFN's agreement with authorized posting organizations includes automatic 
processing of releases with no editing nor other kind of intervention.

Those subscribing to the wfn-news mailing list received all the releases at 
their next log-on.  We are aware this caused problems for some subscribers 
whose inbox limits were exceeded.

The releases were also added to the WFN data base and indexed later that 
evening, as part of the daily re-indexing of the full WFN archive data base 
which has more than 10,000 news releases.

It is the intention of WFN to provide a growing, historic searchable 
archive of official news releases from faith groups and other religion 
organizations.  WFN also provides the free public mailing list, 
WFN-NEWS  carrying all news releases sent by authorized posting 
organizations.  It is a form of "religion/faith news wire" which includes 
all releases including those posted in English, Spanish, German and French.

Future plans include a data base of faith group / denomination official 
profiles and a data base of official policy statements from those 
organizations.
