    Presbyterian Online Store Opens for Business 
 
    More than 4,000 resources available at "one-stop shop"

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - An online "store" that for the first time makes it 
possible for Presbyterians and others to order nearly any denominational 
book or resource opened for business Sept. 1. 
 
    It was developed by the General Assembly Council's Office of 
Communication. 
 
    The World Wide Web site - <http://pds.pcusa.org> - includes nearly 
4,000 resources from the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) and the 
Presbyterian Distribution Service (PDS), including the full line of books 
bearing the imprints of Westminster John Knox Press, Geneva Press, Bridge 
Resources and Witherspoon Press. 
 
    Church school curriculum - including the brand new "Covenant People," 
"Bible Quest" and "The Present Word" curricula - are also available, as 
well as such popular resources as "The Mission Yearbook for Prayer and 
Study" and the "Presbyterian Planning Calendar.  Resources for peacemaking, 
evangelism, stewardship, mission, social justice are available, and even 
General Assembly minutes. 
 
    "This represents a great effort by all of those involved in its 
development to create a single place where people can order materials 
conveniently," said Bill Hovingh, an Office of Communication staff member 
who helped create the new site. 
 
    The PPC selection includes more than 800 titles plus a comprehensive 
selection of congregational resources.  Davis Perkins, PPC president, said, 
"The online ordering site benefits all of us, from the clergy and 
membership of congregations to the ministries, missions and publishing 
groups of the church at large.  We view it as an exciting new option in 
resource communication and distribution." 
 
    GAC executive director John Detterick agreed.  "There has been 
fantastic cooperation among many different people and agencies to make this 
joint Web site a reality.  It is a complex and magnificent piece of work 
that brings together the many diverse ministries of our church." 
 
    The PDS selection includes more than 3,000 items - including 800 free 
resources - ranging from books to brochures, posters, promotional 
materials, videos and CD-ROMS.
