Writers Guild Seeks "Jim Angell Award" Entries
Prize Awarded for Best First Book
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Presbyterian Writers Guild is seeking entries for its
7th Annual "Jim Angell Award." The award is given each year at the Guild's
General Assembly luncheon to the Presbyterian writer judged to have
published the best first book in the previous year.
Last June in Fort Worth, the Rev. Cathy Cummings Chisholm of Vandalia,
Ill., received the 1998 award for "Landscapes of the Heart," published by
Bridge Resources of Louisville.
The award was inaugurated in 1993 to honor the life and work of the
Rev. James W. Angell, who was the author of 19 books, including the
legendary "How to Spell Presbyterian." The award carries with it a prize
of $500.
To be eligible for the award, books must be copyrighted 1999. Books,
along with a curriculum vitae of the author, may be sent to Nancy
Regensburger, 615 Wightman Street, Vassar, MI 48768. Deadline is April 1,
2000.
Entries will be judged by a panel of Presbyterian Writers Guild
members, chaired by Regensburger.
