Multicultural Church Conference Slated
April 2000 Conference Will Be the First of Its Kind
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Next April 27-30, the Office of Evangelism and Racial and
Cultural Diversity of the National Ministries Division will a sponsor the
first conference ever designed specifically for multicultural congregations
in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
The conference entitled "One Vine: Many Branches," will be held in St.
Louis.
Presbyterian evangelism officials estimate there are 268
multiracial/multicultural congregations in the PC(USA). There are several
hundred ethnic or racial specific churches and many other Presbyterian
congregations "are sensing a call to become more culturally inclusive,"
according to evangelism leaders.
Workshops and plenary presentations will focus on such aspects of
multicultural ministry as creating effective multicultural worship,
leadership development in multicultural congregations, how changing
demographics impact multicultural ministries and the unique challenges
facing the creation of multicultural new church developments.
More information about the conference is available from Frances Camille
Williams-Neal, associate for evangelism and racial and cultural diversity
at (502) 569-5246 or by e-mail at <cneal@ctr.pcusa.org>.
